Celebrations wouldnt be complete without a bottle or two of champagne. But did you know that this festive drink gives us another reason to celebrate? Researchers reveal that champagne is good for the health, boosting memory and promoting heart health, among others.

Like red wine, its loaded with polyphenols that fight off free radical damage inside the body, protecting it from many types of ailments including heart disease, stroke and high blood pressure. A glass of champagne in a week is believed to be enough to enjoy these benefits. Of course, as with any alcoholic beverage, drinking too much can do more harm than good.

Below, youll discover more about why champagne in itself is a reason to celebrate.

1. Champagne improves memory

The Telegraph talks about how this bubbly drink can improve memory and delay the progress of brain degenerative diseases like dementia. According to a study from the University of Reading in UK, champagnes compounds can effectively stimulate connections inside the brain that are related to learning and memory.

As you know, the brains cognitive functions, which includes memory, decline as we age. However with champagne boosting the brains spatial memory in particular, people can cope better with the aging of the brain, improving cognitive functioning along the way.

The researchers recommend one to two glasses of champagne a week, which is more than enough to give the brain a boost. Be careful not to go overboard. Anything more than the recommended dosage can be harmful to ones health.

2. Champagne is good for the heart

Apparently, champagne is not just good for the brain but also for the heart. The Guardian reports on a study that was published in the British Journal of Nutrition stating that champagnes polyphenols are capable of lowering blood pressure levels and decreasing risk of heart disease.

It does so by inhibiting the removal of nitric oxide from the blood. As a result, higher levels of nitric oxide helps the blood vessels dilate, which results in lower blood pressure. Aside from this, its also rich in resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant that can effectively prevent blood clots, lower blood cholesterol in the bloodstream, and minimize blood vessel damage.

3. Champagne boosts skin health

Champagnes wonderful benefits are not confined to the bodys internal system. They are also manifested physically through the skin. Surprisingly, this bubbly drink works as a toner, getting rid of skin impurities and restoring its proper pH balance. It has antioxidants that detoxify the skin, and tartaric acid that lightens the skin, evens out skin tone and removes hyper pigmentation.

On top of all these, the carbon dioxide in this beverage also helps keep the skin tight and supple while its polyphenols keeps inflammation under control. Its great for any skin type as well.

So how do you use champagne on your skin? After washing your face with a mild cleanser, dip a cotton ball in champagne and apply on your face and neck. Be careful in putting any on the area around the eyes as it can cause mild irritation.

4. Champagne makes you feel better

Champagne would definitely make you say cheers. It has been known to contain trace elements that can uplift the spirit and boost the mood. A glass of champagne is enough to make you feel happy despite of all the stress youve been experiencing as of late.

Pairing this drink with a fish appetizer is a good idea. Omega 3 fatty acids found in fatty fish can also do wonders in making you feel so much better.

It can be difficult to imagine how an alcoholic beverage can benefit the health. But the ability of champagne to protect the brain and heart as well as boost the mood and improve skin health should definitely not be overlooked.
